Le séisme a été une catastrophe naturelle. Qu’en est-il de l’ampleur des dégâts? Et si nous avions été plus responsables (gouverneurs et gouvernés)? Et si nos institutions avaient été fonctionnelles? Si et seulement si… Aujourd’hui, nous devons regarder vers l’avant, mais évitons de répéter les erreurs qui ont aggravé une situation déjà précaire. Rebâtir Haïti présente un défi de taille. Pensons à investir dans le potentiel humain pour une véritable reconstruction d’une nouvelle Haïti.

The deadly earthquake was a natural phenomenon. But what do we make of the magnitude of the destruction? What if we (the leaders and the governed) had been more responsible? What if our institutions had been solid? So many questions to ask… Today, we need to look ahead while avoiding the repeat of costly mistakes that have aggravated an already precarious situation. Rebuilding Haiti is an obvious challenge. If we are serious about rebuilding the country, let us start investing in the human potential.
